GPNM IS CO-ORGANISER WITH UNEP AT THE HIGH LEVEL TRAINING WORKSHOP ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF GREEN PUBLIC PROCUREMENT AND ECO LABELING IN ASIA PACIFIC

The Implementation of Green Public Procurement
High-Level Training Workshop on and Eco-labelling in Asia-Pacific Countries

15-17 December 2015
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Who shall participate in this training?

This workshop is intended for high-level officials leading the design and implementation of Green Public Procurement (GPP) and eco-labelling (EL) policies in their country or having a strong interest to embark on the path to GPP and eco-labelling.

Training objectives

This training will provide participants with expert knowledge and tools to successfully design and manage GPP policies and eco-labelling schemes in their country. Country experts will share with participants their rich experience in implementing GPP in China, Japan, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, as well as the European Union and the United States and reflect on the different approaches used in these countries.

Training Background

The combined approaches of voluntary labelling and GPP are important elements to create a dynamic framework for improving the environmental performance of products throughout their life cycle, stimulating demand and supply of green products, and helping consumers to make better choices. The Republic of Korea, China, Japan, Malaysia and Thailand have gained strong expertise in creating integrated approaches (GPP and ecolabelling) to promote production and consumption of greener products. They can serve as useful models of good practices to learn from and replicate among Asia-Pacific countries.

This workshop is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water of Malaysia ((KeTTHA) and the Green Purchasing Network Malaysia (GPNM), in the framework of the project “Strengthening the capacities and improving the knowledge on green public procurement and ecolabelling in the ASEAN+3 region”, implemented by UNEP with the support of the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute (KEITI), the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People's Republic of China (MEP) and the Ministry of Environment of Japan. This project seeks to set up an exchange and cooperation programme that will allow transfers of know-how and experience on voluntary labelling and GPP at the Asia-Pacific level.
